在 CBReader 檢索佛典的內容時，您是否曾想過，只搜尋某一類經典或幾部相關經文？

全文檢索的「指定檢索範圍」功能，讓使用者依（1）主題部類、（2）藏經版本或（3）單部經典自訂搜尋書目。這是屬於比較進階的檢索方式，需要具備【目錄】的概念。

1. 依部類 [video 00:39]

CBETA 採用主題分類方式，將所收錄的佛典分為 23 個「部類」，例如：

  • 「法華部類」包含與《法華經》相關的經典、註疏等；
  • 「般若部類」則收錄《大般若經》、《心經》、《金剛經》與相關論著。

一般全文檢索「法華三昧」四字時，會找到上千筆的收錄結果。

如果在設定檢索範圍的視窗內，依部類選擇「法華部類」，就能聚焦相關經典，縮小檢索結果到四百多筆。

2. 依藏經／文集 [video 01:23]

CBETA 收錄歷代藏經（大正藏、卍續藏等）與近代新編文集。每一套藏經和文集都有藏經代碼，例如：大正藏（T）、卍續藏（X）、藏外佛教文獻（ZW）。

我們可以指定某一套或多套藏經、文集作為全文檢索的範圍。

例如，雖然同樣搜尋「法華三昧」，但設定「依藏經選擇」T 和 X 之後，搜尋結果是八百多筆。

3. 依單經 [video 02:08]

是否能夠打破既有的主題「部類」或歷代藏經、近代文集的框架，而自訂檢索書目呢？

可以的！

單經，即單部經典。在「依單經選擇」的模式下，每一部佛典都依編號獨立列出。舉例來說，「T0262 妙法蓮華經」，即「大正藏」編號 262 的《妙法蓮華經》。

因此，透過以下設定路徑，我們從樹狀目錄選擇若干文獻，就能夠自訂檢索書目：

全文檢索 > 指定檢索范圍 > 依單經選擇 > T 大正藏 > 法華部

此模式也支援「儲存」與「載入」書目設定，便於重複使用。

  • 儲存／載入：將選取範圍儲存為 .slr 檔案，下次直接載入，僅適用於「依單經選擇」

Specify Search Range: Search with a Custom List of Texts

 

When searching Buddhist texts in CBReader, have you ever wanted to limit your search to a certain category of texts or just a few related sūtras?

The Specify Search Range feature in the Full-Text Search allows you to define a custom scope based on: (1) Thematic Group, (2) Canon or Collection, or (3) Individual Texts.

This is an advanced search option that requires a basic understanding of the CBETA Catalog.

1. By Group [video 00:39]

CBETA uses a subject-based classification system to categorise its texts into 23 thematic groups. For example:

  • The Fahua Group includes texts related to the Lotus Sūtra, such as commentaries and treatises.

  • The Prajñā Group contains the Mahā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, the Heart Sūtra, the Diamond Sūtra and related works.

A general full-text search for the term “Fahua Sanmei” (法華三昧) may return over a thousand results.

By selecting only the Fahua Group and perform a new search, the results are narrowed to just over 400 entries.

2. By Collection [video 01:23]

CBETA includes historical canons such as the Taishō Canon and Manji Zokuzōkyō, as well as modern compilations. Each collection is assigned a code. Examples include:

  • T for Taishō Tripiṭaka
  • X for Manji Zokuzōkyō
  • ZW for Extra-canonical Buddhist Literature

We can limit our search to one or more of these collections.

For instance, when searching “Fahua Sanmei”, selecting only T and X results in around 800 entries, compared to a broader search across the full CBETA database.

3. By Text [video 02:08]

What if you want to go beyond themes or canonical sets and define your own search list?

Yes, that’s possible.

Under By Text, each text is listed and sorted according to its catalog number. For example: Saddharmapuṇḍarīka Sūtra (T0262) is from the Taishō Tripiṭaka (T) catalog no. 262.

We may select texts through this path:

Full-Text Search > Specify Search Range > By Text > Taishō > Fahua Group

This method also supports saving and loading your search range selections, making it easy to reuse customized lists.

💡 Other Features [video 02:44]

  • Deselect All: Clear the current selection. Each of the three search types is independently controlled.

  • Save / Load: Save your current selection as an .slr file (Search Limited Range) and load it later. (Only available under “By Text”)

  • Expand / Collapse All: Helps manage multi-level lists when selecting individual texts. (Only available under “By Text”)

  • Cancel: Return to the main interface without applying any changes.
